Innovative research for the intelligent maintenance of rail vehicles: ZEDAS GmbH as a partner

ZEDAS GmbH is working together with BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, Deutsche Bahn and Fraunhofer IKTS on pioneering solutions to optimise the maintenance of rail vehicles. As part of the D4M research project, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and innovative sensor technology is being driven forward in order to make maintenance processes more efficient, sustainable and economical.

The aim is to replace components precisely and shortly before an impending malfunction in order to avoid unnecessary failures and extend the service life of components. By using intelligent sensors and AI, relevant data is continuously recorded and analysed in order to detect deviations at an early stage. This enables predictive maintenance, which not only increases safety and convenience, but also helps to reduce costs.

The project partners are working closely together to develop innovative solutions for digital support of workshop planning and control. ZEDAS GmbH is contributing its expertise in the field of software for the rail industry and playing a central role in the digitalisation of maintenance processes.

At InnoTrans 2024, Dr Volker Wissing, Federal Minister for Digital and Transport Affairs, presented the funding decisions for a total of 5.2 million euros for two research projects - ‘DEFLECTOR’ and ‘D4M’. These projects are being funded as part of the mFUND programme of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV), which supports the development of digital innovations for rail transport and the mobility of the future.

‘Digitalisation and the use of AI offer enormous potential for optimising the maintenance of trains. We look forward to working with our partners to develop forward-looking technologies that increase the efficiency and availability of rail vehicles and at the same time contribute to the sustainable transformation of Lusatia,’ says Dr Daniela Gerd tom Markotten, Board Member for Digitalisation and Technology at Deutsche Bahn AG.

ZEDAS GmbH is proud to be part of this innovative research project and is actively contributing to digitalisation and increased efficiency in rail vehicle maintenance with its advanced software solutions.
